Building on the general idea that we can make better sense of things if/when we organize them into categories (Lesson A/B 1) emphasize that everything we find around us can be categorized as solid, liquid, gas, or combinations (Lesson A-2). Alternatively, everything we find around us can be categorized as Living or biological, Natural Earth, or Human-made as described in this lesson. Draw students to consider and grapple with Heat, Light, Electricity, and Motion (Lesson C-1). Do they fit in either of these schemes of categorization? No! Draw students to recognize that there are two major categories of what we experience around us: Matter, which we experience as solids, liquids, gases; and Energy, (heat, light, electricity, and motion) which we experience as being necessary to make things go, work, or change.  (Please post questions/points of confusion that kids express.)
