As described in the text, objects in a state of free-fall (the only force acting on them is gravity) have no weight. This can be demonstrated by placing a weight on a scale and dropping the scale with the weight on it. Observing that the dial on the scale as it falls (onto a soft pillow to avoid damage) reveals that it returns to zero in the course of its fall. This is demonstrated in the following video.
