The modern “steam engine,” used to turn generators to produce electricity, is the steam turbine. The high pressure steam is essentially blasted onto fan blades causing them to turn. However, to gain maximum efficiency the design is quite sophisticated as shown in this video. Have students note and describe how, over all, the system is still an application of the temperature-pressure-volume relationship.
