Free-hand maps easily include distortions–one or more items out of proportion to others. All in fun, is a crude map called: “A Texan’s view of the the United State”

But, in real life, a map with distortions or inaccuracies can cause great inconvenience or even tragedy. Have students suggest how this might be the case.
