The following is a time laps video showing the germination of a seed. Note the real time of the process. Note that the first thing to emerge from the seed is the root. Why? Consider the seedling’s need for water. The embryo is preformed within the seed. Early growth is largely the preformed cells of the embryo swelling themselves up with water.
