This video animation shows the “voice box”, vocal cords, and how they function. Muscles stretch/tighten and loosen vocal cords to produce higher and lower pitches. Changing the shape of the mouth cavity with the tongue and lips modulates the sound into words. Students should note that the principle that vibrations are the source of sound is the same.
